On August 12, 2026, the sky gives us something much more powerful than an ordinary New Moon.
The New Moon in Leo arrives with a solar eclipse, bringing themes of identity, courage, creativity, visibility and change. The eclipse will be total along a narrow path elsewhere in the world, while here in southern Ontario we will experience a partial solar eclipse during the afternoon.
Then, later that night, the sky gives us something completely different: the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak, with the New Moon creating beautifully dark conditions for spotting shooting stars.
There is a message woven through all of this:
Sometimes the light shifts just enough for us to see something differently.
Rather than rushing to make a manifestation list, this New Moon asks:
What is already beginning to change?

The Sun Is Eclipsed in the Sign It Rules
Here’s one of my favourite details about this eclipse:
Leo is ruled by the Sun — and during this Leo New Moon, the Sun itself is being eclipsed.
Leo represents confidence, creativity, joy and our willingness to be seen.
But perhaps this eclipse isn’t asking you to shine brighter for everyone else.
Perhaps it’s asking:
Who are you when nobody is applauding?
What do you love simply because you love it? What would you create before anyone told you it was good?
This eclipse may be less about becoming visible to everyone else and more about becoming visible to yourself.
The Hidden Corona
Along the path of totality, the Moon will completely cover the brilliant surface of the Sun, briefly revealing its normally hidden outer atmosphere — the corona.
We won’t see the corona here in southern Ontario because our eclipse is partial, but I love the symbolism.
The corona was always there. We simply couldn’t see it.
An intuition. A desire. A talent you’ve underestimated. A truth you’ve been avoiding.
Sometimes darkness doesn’t hide things. Sometimes it reveals them.
And Later That Night, Come the Shooting Stars
The celestial show doesn’t end with the afternoon eclipse.
Later that night and into the early hours of August 13, the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak. With the New Moon leaving the night sky beautifully dark, conditions are especially favourable for spotting meteors, weather permitting.
The Perseids come from debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle. Tiny pieces from its ancient journey enter Earth’s atmosphere and become brilliant streaks of light.
Think about that:
Something left behind long ago becomes light.
Experience can become wisdom.
Disappointment can become discernment.
An ending can become direction.
Not everything we leave behind is wasted.
Tarot Guidance: Six of Wands, Four of Swords & Temperance
The three cards guiding this Leo New Moon Solar Eclipse tell a beautiful story.
Six of Wands — Be Seen
A perfect companion to Leo energy.
The Six of Wands speaks of confidence, recognition and progress. But recognition doesn’t always have to come from someone else.
Sometimes it’s finally recognizing your own growth.
Where are you ready to stop shrinking?
Four of Swords — Be Still
The Four of Swords reminds us that we don’t have to immediately act on everything an eclipse reveals.
Rest. Observe. Listen.
Sometimes clarity arrives when we stop chasing it.
Temperance — Let It Take Shape
Temperance brings balance, patience and integration.
You aren’t throwing away who you’ve been. You’re allowing experience and possibility to come together in a new way.
Together, these cards tell us:
Be seen. Become still. Let the change take shape.

A Final New Moon Reflection
This eclipse doesn’t require us to have everything figured out.
Simply notice what feels different — what excites you, what no longer fits and what is asking to be seen.
Ask yourself:
What part of me is ready to be seen?
What has my past taught me that can now become light?
What would I choose if I trusted myself a little more?
Perhaps that’s the message of this Leo New Moon Solar Eclipse:
You don’t need to reinvent yourself. You may simply need to stop hiding who you’ve become.
Sometimes moving forward is simply returning to yourself.
If this eclipse is stirring something within you, a tarot reading can offer clarity on what’s changing, what’s emerging, and where you’re being guided next. https://truthtarot.ca/what-does-it-cost-for-a-tarot-reading/
